A number of elements were important to me in choosing an employer after finishing business school. Firstly, personal impact—I did not want to stay at the drawing board, making pitch books or theoretical solutions that would rarely be realized. I also wished for a position where from day one I could contribute to fundamentally shaping the solution rather than explaining an already standardized solution. At BCG I found this and more. With small teams and deep client interaction, I was able to influence solutions much more than I ever expected.
Secondly, I wished for an environment that had the most thorough focus on my development. Here, BCG by far exceeded expectations, with passionate emphasis on how to make me the best consultant I could be, helping me progress much faster than I expected.
Lastly, was a desire to personally influence my project portfolio. This is where I was the most surprised by how much my own preferences where taken into account, in regard to sectors, types of projects, and traveling.
