I look for a balance of three elements in a job: constant learning, work-life balance, and pay. At BCG I have this balance.

Firstly, there is not a single similar day. During the last three years I have familiarized myself with several industries, business functions, and people from all over the world. My projects have varied from conducting a pricing check for a luxury sailing boat manufacturer to creating a distributor strategy for an emerging market brewery.

Secondly, I have enjoyed an excellent work-life balance. Besides work, I have taken time off for traveling and practiced my hobby of dancing regularly. It has been up to me when I work—as long as everything gets done.

Thirdly, the pay is competitive. It’s balancing all these three that makes BCG the perfect job for me!

Anu-Elina started in the Helsinki office in 2005. She is currently on transfer to the Melbourne office.

Before joining BCG she worked in banking in London.

Anu-Elina holds three degrees: a master’s in economics from the Helsinki School of Economics, a CEMS MIM (master’s in international management), as well as master’s in international politics with a minor in economics from the University of Helsinki.

My first weeks at BCG have been very educational, being introduced to the vast amount of tools and experts at my disposal in the BCG system. I also enjoy being able to decide on preferences for cases to be staffed on and other roles and responsibility areas. My lifelong dedication to soccer has finally paid off as I am now part of the duo in charge of BCG Oslo’s soccer team.

After a decade in academia I was feeling too caught up in the routine and wanted to do something more practical. After some searching, I joined BCG.

The environment here is effective because it appreciates in-depth thinking, and at the same time provides the opportunity to work on important issues and see considerable, immediate impact from one’s work.

My background is an asset in helping clients change and improve. While I may have given up some academic freedom, the fresh challenges compensate for it—the fit is great and I am enjoying my new career.

Matti holds a doctorate in business administration from Harvard University and BBA and MBA degrees from the Helsinki School of Economics.

He worked at BCG in 1997, left to pursue doctoral studies, and rejoined in 2008 after six years as a professor.

Contributing to insight and positive change were major drivers when deciding to pursue a PhD, and also when deciding to expand my experience beyond academic science.

My first case at BCG involved helping the World Health Organization and the Roll Back Malaria partnership to increase their effectiveness, strengthening them in their global battle against malaria. The case was built on combining medical understanding with organizational know-how, practical effectiveness, and global experience.

As well as offering personal satisfaction, it immediately illustrated the magnitude of what we, as an organization, can achieve. 

Nina holds an MS in biomedicine and a PhD in molecular neurobiology from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm.

She also has research experience from Columbia University in New York and Hôpital la Salpêtrière in Paris.

Nina joined BCG in 2006.
